In the face of ongoing Russian aggression, Ukraine finds itself under assault not only on the front lines but also on the economic front. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has condemned Russia's tactics, labeling them as "forbidden" and a violation of international law.

Amidst the devastation and displacement brought by the war, civilians like Anzhelika Sharonova and her 86-year-old mother have endured unimaginable hardships. Forced to flee their battered town of Toretsk, they recount the relentless bombardment and lack of basic services that made their lives unbearable.

As Russian forces advance on multiple fronts, Toretsk and surrounding areas face the threat of encirclement. Buildings bear the scars of conflict, metal cables lie scattered, and dogs roam the streets amidst the constant rumble of artillery.

East SOS, a relief group specializing in evacuating civilians, has become a lifeline for those desperate to escape the war-torn region. Volunteers like Vladyslav Arseniy and Oleksandr Stasenko risk their own safety to rescue the elderly, infirm, and vulnerable.

In one village, Valentyna Sharonova recounts the horrors of a missile attack that hit every house. The Sharovas and others left behind in Toretsk cling to their homes, determined to endure until they are completely destroyed.

As the conflict rages on, foreign aid continues to play a crucial role. The recent passage of a foreign aid package provides a glimmer of hope for Ukraine, while the upcoming NATO summit brings expectations for further support.

Despite the resilience of civilians like the Sharas, the psychological toll of the war is undeniable. "Emotions break through sometimes and you tear up," confides Stasenko. "But you pull yourself together and help people."

Sikorski's condemnation of Russia's economic tactics serves as a reminder of the global implications of the conflict. As the world grapples with the ramifications of Russia's aggression, international cooperation and unwavering support for Ukraine are paramount.
