Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski denounces Russia's tactics in the Ukraine war, labeling them as "forbidden" and contravening international norms.
As the Russia-Ukraine conflict marks its third Easter, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski weighs in on the evolving situation, condemning Russia's economic tactics as violations of international law. In an interview, Sikorski emphasizes that such actions constitute "forbidden tactics" that run counter to established norms.
Amidst the ongoing conflict, the Ukrainian military reports repulsing a Russian incursion attempt, fueling concerns about a renewed push by Russian forces to seize Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledges fierce fighting throughout the day as Russia launches missiles, kamikaze drones, and artillery attacks on the city.
White House spokesperson John Kirby confirms Russia's offensive in Kharkiv, anticipating an intensification of Russian attacks and troop deployments. However, Kirby expresses confidence in the Ukrainian armed forces' capabilities.
Ukrainian commanders have anticipated a summer offensive by Russia, with Kharkiv as a potential target. Russian reconnaissance groups attempted to cross the border during the latest attack, but Ukrainian officials claim no territory was lost.
Some analysts speculate that Russia seeks to establish a buffer zone between Ukraine and the Belgorod region by capturing Kharkiv. Residents of the city evacuate as reserve troops arrive to defend it.
Despite enduring tiredness and fear due to repeated air raid sirens, Kharkiv residents remain determined to stay and defend their city. Olena Kurylo, a resident, laments the constant state of exhaustion and the desire to leave the city, but she refuses to abandon her home.
Switzerland's role as host of the upcoming Ukraine peace summit highlights the country's grappling with its historic neutrality. The U.S. announces a new military aid package worth $400 million for Ukraine, including munitions for Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems, as well as HIMARS rocket systems.
The ongoing conflict continues to test the resilience of the Ukrainian people and raise questions about the extent of Russia's aggression. Sikorski's condemnation of Russia's tactics underscores the international community's disapproval of such actions, while the aid package and ongoing diplomatic efforts aim to bolster Ukraine's defense and pave the way for a peaceful resolution.
