Boxing star Ryan Garcia's legal team has confirmed that traces of the banned substance Ostarine were found in two supplements he used leading up to his fight with Devin Haney. The team maintains that Garcia was the victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally taken performance-enhancing drugs.
After extensive testing, Ryan Garcia's legal team has confirmed that traces of the banned substance Ostarine were found in two supplements the boxer declared to VADA Doping Control. The team maintains that Garcia was the victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally taken performance-enhancing drugs.
Garcia's team provided the test results to Fox News Digital, which show that Ostarine was detected in NutraBio Super Carb and BodyHealth's Perfect Amino. Both supplements are used to enhance recovery and muscle growth, respectively.
"This confirms what we have consistently maintained: Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances. Any claims to the contrary, questioning Ryan's integrity as a clean fighter, are unequivocally false and defamatory," the statement read.
Garcia's team has emphasized that the boxer has voluntarily submitted to numerous drug tests throughout his career, all of which have returned negative results. Additionally, multiple negative tests leading up to his fight against Haney underscore his commitment to fair competition.
The ultra-low levels of Ostarine detected in Garcia's samples, in the billionth of a gram range, further support the claim of contamination rather than intentional ingestion. A hair sample also tested negative for banned substances.
Garcia upset Haney in their bout at Barclays Center, but the WBC super lightweight championship belt remained with Haney due to Garcia's failure to make weight before the fight.
Garcia's team intends to hold a press conference next week to provide more information and answer questions.
Garcia's positive drug test sparked an outcry in the boxing community, with some calling for his lifetime suspension from the sport. However, Garcia's team is confident that he will be exonerated once the full evidence is presented.
"Ryan's integrity and commitment to clean competition are unwavering," the statement read. "We are confident that he will be cleared of any wrongdoing."
The case of Ryan Garcia serves as a reminder of the importance of rigorous testing and transparent supplement regulation in sports. It also highlights the potential risks of supplement contamination, which can have serious consequences for athletes.
Garcia's legal team has filed an appeal with VADA, and the results of that process will be closely watched by the boxing community and beyond.
Stay tuned to Fox News Digital for updates on this developing story.
