World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler's arraignment on charges stemming from an incident outside Valhalla Golf Club during the PGA Championship has been delayed until June 3rd.

Scottie Scheffler's arraignment following his arrest prior to the second round of the PGA Championship has been pushed from Tuesday to June 3, according to his attorney Steve Romines. Romines told ESPN that his client will be pleading not guilty to multiple charges that resulted from what the golfer has characterized as a "big misunderstanding."

The incident unfolded early Friday morning when Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla for allegedly disobeying police orders while trying to enter the golf course. A 69-year-old man, John Mills, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of police activity after being struck by a shuttle bus. Mills was working as a vendor at Valhalla for the tournament.

Scheffler was attempting to gain access to the course when Detective Bryan Gillis allegedly attempted to prevent him from proceeding. Gillis claims that Scheffler accelerated his SUV, and he was dragged by the vehicle, resulting in injuries.

Scheffler was immediately detained, taken to the police station, and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.

Despite the incident, Scheffler returned to the course in time for his second round and finished tied-eighth at 13-under. Xander Schauffele captured his first major title with a birdie on the 18th hole on Sunday.

After the tournament, Scheffler expressed fatigue but acknowledged his resilience throughout the week. He also mentioned that he had stretched in jail, maintaining his usual routine before the second round.

The arraignment delay is attributed to a conflict in Romines' schedule, although Scheffler was not expected to attend the initial arraignment in Louisville.

Notably, sources familiar with the Jefferson County Prosecutors Office's thinking have indicated that they may drop the charges, but this remains subject to change.

ESPN reported that the Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson confirmed that Gillis failed to activate his bodycam during the incident involving Scheffler.

Scheffler is scheduled to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge this week at Colonial Golf Club in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
