Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, has demanded the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, citing security failures that allowed a gunman to open fire at a Pennsylvania rally attended by former President Donald Trump.
Former President Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, has echoed the growing chorus of Republicans calling for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle following security lapses that enabled an assassination attempt on his father.
"She should resign in absolute disgrace," Eric Trump declared on Fox News' Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. "The fact that you can come out and lie to the American people, stop subpoenas as Mayorkas is trying to do right now, stop FOIA requests as Mayorkas is trying to do right now, and tell the American people that... Secret Service couldn't navigate the roof. That's going to be the excuse she's going to use? It's an absolute disgrace."

Eric Trump vehemently condemned the Biden administration for allowing his father, a potential future presidential candidate, to be targeted by gunfire. "The fact that the Biden administration could allow a former president, and very likely a future president, to take a bullet through the ear, and there is no accountability... and the person [Cheatle] is still in their job just shows how disgraceful and inept this administration is. She should be out of a job. They should put somebody in there that's competent."
The assassination attempt occurred on July 13th at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks fired multiple shots, wounding Trump's ear and critically injuring spectators. The incident has sparked intense scrutiny of security failures, with Republican lawmakers demanding answers.

The Secret Service is now under fire for failing to prevent Crooks from accessing the rooftop of the rally venue. Witnesses have recounted seeing the gunman crawling onto the roof prior to the attack, but their warnings were ignored.
Amid the ongoing investigation, Cheatle is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill on Monday to provide an explanation for the security breaches.

In addition to the Trump Organization, several Republican senators have also expressed outrage over the security lapses. Senators Marsha Blackburn, John Barrasso, James Lankford, and Kevin Cramer confronted Cheatle at the 2024 Republican National Convention, demanding answers about Crooks' proximity to the former president.
The security failures have raised serious concerns about the Secret Service's ability to protect the president and other high-profile individuals. Eric Trump praised the Secret Service agents on stage with his father for their response, describing them as "incredible people" and personal friends. However, he emphasized the need for accountability in the wake of the assassination attempt.

As the investigation continues, the Secret Service faces growing pressure to address the security failures and ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future. The resignation of Director Cheatle remains a possibility as lawmakers seek to hold the agency accountable for the lapses that put former President Trump's life at risk.
