Sen. Tim Scott, a former 2024 GOP presidential candidate, expresses his unwavering support for Donald Trump's re-election bid and hints at his own aspirations for the vice presidency.
Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican from South Carolina, is actively campaigning for former President Donald Trump's re-election bid, emphasizing the economic benefits of a Trump presidency and positioning himself as a potential running mate.
"It is in the best interest of the United States of America to have four more years of President Donald Trump," Scott declared in an interview with Fox News Digital. "It is in the best interest of our economy to have four more years of Donald Trump."
Scott, who unsuccessfully challenged Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination last year, has since endorsed the former president and become a prominent Trump surrogate. He is widely considered among the top contenders for the vice presidential spot on the Republican ticket.
As part of his efforts to secure Trump's re-election, Scott has been actively raising funds for the former president and meeting with top Republican donors. He recently attended an RNC spring donor retreat featuring Trump and is scheduled to participate in a major fundraiser event in New York City next week.
In addition, Scott is reportedly hosting a gathering in Washington, D.C. next month to engage with GOP donors who remain uncommitted to Trump.
"What I'm going to say to the donors across the country and specifically next week is that four more years under Donald Trump is good for our economy," Scott stated. "It's good for your pocket book. But more important, it's good for America's future."
Scott's fundraising prowess, demonstrated during his comfortable 2022 Senate re-election campaign, has been transferred to his efforts on behalf of Trump. When asked if these efforts enhance his chances of becoming Trump's vice presidential pick, Scott remained focused on the goal of securing Trump's re-election.
"I certainly hope that all of our efforts will lead to a better America with one result: Donald Trump having four more years," Scott said.
Regarding potential competition among potential vice presidential contenders, Scott emphasized his commitment to fostering a positive political environment.
"My goal isn't to be in a better position than someone else who wants something," Scott said. "My goal is to make sure that the next generation of leaders looks at me and others and says, 'Those guys, they burned a path that we get to walk down.'"
Scott's comments follow Indiana's recent Republican presidential primary, where Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, received over 21% of the vote despite having ended her White House bid two months ago. Haley has yet to endorse Trump.
Scott, while acknowledging Haley's ongoing influence within the Republican Party, expressed confidence that Trump remains a unifying force for the party and that Haley's supporters will ultimately align with his candidacy.
"The good news is that the voters and the fundraising machine that supported [Haley's] candidacy and our candidacy and other candidates are all coming back into the fold," Scott said. "The good news is President Trump is a unifying force for our party."
