Tennis legend Serena Williams offers words of encouragement to Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever rookie snubbed from the US Olympic basketball team.
Serena Williams, one of the most decorated tennis players of all time, recently took time to share her thoughts on Caitlin Clark, the highly touted Indiana Fever rookie who was controversially left off the US Olympic basketball team. Williams expressed her admiration for Clark's perseverance and advised her to continue honing her skills.
During an interview at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, Williams acknowledged the challenges facing Clark as a young athlete facing intense scrutiny. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion urged Clark to stay grounded and avoid dwelling on social media negativity.

"I just love that she tried to stay grounded and that she doesn't... look at her social [media]," Williams told The Associated Press. "I get it. I don't either. And I think it's so important to continue doing what she's doing."
Williams also hinted that some of the criticism directed at Clark may stem from jealousy.

"And no matter what other people do, if people are negative then it's because they can't do what you do… basically," Williams noted. "And hopefully she'll continue to do what she's doing."
Clark, the 2021 NCAA Player of the Year, has faced a steep learning curve in her first WNBA season. The physicality of the professional game has taken its toll, but Clark has shown flashes of brilliance, leading rookies in several statistical categories.

Despite her impressive performance, Clark was surprisingly omitted from the 12-woman US Olympic basketball team. The decision has sparked a heated debate, with many analysts and fans questioning the selection process.
However, Williams believes Clark should not be discouraged by the setback.
"I think that she's going to be a great player," Williams said. "She's already a great player. But I think she has the potential to be even better."
Williams's words of encouragement come at a crucial time for Clark, who is still adjusting to the rigors of the WNBA. The rookie sensation will look to prove her doubters wrong and continue her journey toward becoming one of the league's elite players.
