NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal has responded to recent comments made by his ex-wife Shaunie Henderson regarding his past behavior during their marriage. O'Neal acknowledged his shortcomings and expressed remorse, stating "I wouldn't have been in love with me either."
Former NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal has addressed his ex-wife Shaunie Henderson's recent comments about his past behavior during their marriage. In her new book "Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms," Henderson alleges that O'Neal frequently "went missing" during their time together.
O'Neal has been open about his flaws in the past, but his recent social media post appears to be a direct response to Henderson's accusations. He wrote, "I understand...I wouldn’t have been in love with me either," admitting his faults and wishing Henderson all the best.
Henderson and O'Neal were married for almost nine years before divorcing in 2011. They have four children together: sons Shareef and Shaquir, and daughters Amirah and Me'arah. Shareef commented under his father's post, expressing his love and gratitude.
In her book, Henderson recounts how she initially overlooked certain behaviors that later contributed to the downfall of their marriage. However, she eventually realized that O'Neal's frequent absences and lack of involvement in his daily responsibilities were a cause for concern.
Henderson writes that she suspected O'Neal may have had a condo in Miami Beach after he was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Miami Heat. She notes that he always had an explanation for his whereabouts, but she eventually acknowledged that their family life was far from perfect.
Since their divorce, O'Neal has repeatedly acknowledged his past mistakes. In 2023, he admitted on "The Pivot Podcast" that he was "bad" during their marriage and took ownership of his behavior.
O'Neal's response to Henderson's recent comments demonstrates his willingness to confront his past and take accountability for his actions. It also highlights the challenges that can arise in any relationship, even between those who are deeply in love.
While the specifics of O'Neal's past behavior remain unclear, his admission of fault and his expression of love for Henderson suggest that he is committed to moving forward and maintaining a positive relationship with his ex-wife and their children.
