Six-time world medalist Shilese Jones has withdrawn from the final day of competition at the 2023 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Sunday for personal reasons.

Shilese Jones Withdraws from US Olympic Trials
"It was a really tough decision, but I have to put my health and well-being first," Jones said in a statement released by USA Track & Field. "I'm so proud of all the athletes who have competed here this week, and I wish them all the best in Eugene."
Jones, 27, is a three-time Olympian and has won two bronze medals in the shot put at the World Athletics Championships. She also won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in 2019.
Her withdrawal from the Olympic Trials is a significant blow to the U.S. team's hopes of capturing multiple medals in the women's shot put in Tokyo. Jones was considered one of the favorites to earn a spot on the team, along with reigning Olympic champion Michelle Carter and defending world champion Tori Hunter.
Despite Jones' absence, the women's shot put final is still expected to be fiercely competitive. Carter, Hunter, and Raven Saunders are all capable of throwing over 20 meters, and several other athletes are also in contention for a spot on the team.
The final day of competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials will begin on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. EDT. The women's shot put final is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
Jones' withdrawal from the Trials is a reminder that even the most accomplished athletes can face challenges that affect their performance. Her decision to prioritize her well-being is a courageous one, and it should serve as an inspiration to all athletes who are struggling with similar issues.
