Shocking Revelation: Jewish Democrat Calls Out Senator Bernie Sanders for Silence on Antisemitism

Amidst ongoing protests against Israel and concerns over antisemitism on college campuses, a Jewish Democrat in the House of Representatives has boldly challenged Senator Bernie Sanders for his deafening silence on the issue. The dispute erupted after Sanders condemned a foreign aid package to Israel during the Gaza conflict, leading to accusations of hypocrisy from his fellow Jewish representative.

A Jewish Democrat in the House of Representatives has ignited a heated debate by calling out Senator Bernie Sanders for his alleged silence on antisemitism, particularly in the context of ongoing protests against Israel and incidents involving Jewish students on college campuses.

The controversy unfolded after Sanders, an independent senator who caucuses with the Democrats, publicly opposed a foreign aid package that included billions of dollars for Israel. Sanders denounced it as a "dark day for democracy" and attempted to add amendments to restore funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and end "unfettered" aid to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Both amendments were blocked from consideration prior to the vote on the package.

In response to Sanders' statement, Representative Jared Moskowitz, a Jewish Democrat from Florida, took to social media to scrutinize the senator's lack of vocal opposition to antisemitism. "Bernie, now do Antisemitism. Why so quiet?" he wrote on Twitter.

Both Moskowitz and Sanders are Jewish and are members of the Democratic caucuses in the House and Senate, respectively. Sanders, however, is an independent.

In a subsequent tweet, Moskowitz emphasized that Sanders' silence on antisemitism was particularly troubling in light of the growing number of anti-Israel protests and alleged incidents of threats and intimidation against Jewish students on college campuses.

"My family was also killed in the Holocaust. In Germany and in Poland. My grandmother was in the kinder-transport. They also instilled values in me. It’s why I voted for aid to Israel and for aid to Gaza," Moskowitz wrote.

Sanders' silence on antisemitism has drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans. Representative Bill Cassidy, the Republican ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), which Sanders chairs, has urged Sanders to hold hearings on antisemitism on college campuses.

Sanders has declined to comment on his position on holding such hearings.

Moskowitz's criticism of Sanders has also drawn fire from some, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York. Ocasio-Cortez defended Sanders, writing in a tweet, "Sen. Sanders’ family was killed in the Holocaust. He dedicates his every moment to realizing tikkun olam. His commitment to protecting innocents in Gaza stems FROM his Jewish values."

The dispute has further escalated tensions within the Democratic Party, which has been grappling with internal divisions over the issue of Israel and support for the Palestinian cause.
