Prominent elections analyst Nate Silver says former President Trump is now electorally favored to defeat Kamala Harris in November, while Harris faces challenges in key battleground states.
Nate Silver, the prominent elections analyst and statistician, has released his latest election forecast, which shows former President Trump gaining ground on Democratic challenger Kamala Harris. According to Silver, the forecast remains in toss-up range, but Trump’s chances of winning have increased to 58.2%, while Harris' odds have decreased to 41.6%.
Silver’s analysis highlights concerns about Harris' performance in recent state polls. Despite expectations of a post-convention bounce, Harris has not seen a significant boost in support. In Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state with 19 electoral votes, Harris is now considered a "slight underdog."

Michigan, another key swing state with 15 electoral votes, is also presenting challenges for Harris. Polling shows her lead narrowing in the state, raising concerns about her ability to secure victory there. Silver attributes this erosion of support to Harris' decision to bypass Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as her running mate.
Silver also notes that the polls have underestimated Trump in the past, cautioning against complacency among Democrats. "In both the last two general elections they underestimated Trump," Silver said.

Despite Harris' challenges, Silver acknowledges that the race remains competitive and that there is still time for her to improve her standing. However, the tightening race and concerns about her performance in key battleground states are raising questions about her ability to defeat Trump.
Silver highlights the importance of voter enthusiasm in determining the outcome of the election. He believes that Harris' decision to skip over Shapiro as her running mate may have dampened enthusiasm among Democrats in Pennsylvania, a state that was crucial to Trump's victory in 2016.

The lack of a significant post-convention bounce for Harris is also concerning, as it suggests that she has not been able to capitalize on the momentum generated by the Democratic National Convention. Silver argues that Harris' campaign needs to find a "second gear" and generate more excitement among voters.
Overall, Silver's analysis paints a mixed picture for Harris. While she maintains a lead in some national polls and other swing states, her performance in Pennsylvania and Michigan is raising concerns. As the election nears, it remains to be seen whether Harris can improve her standing in these key battleground states and overcome the challenges facing her campaign.
