Amidst South Africa's upcoming election, Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein has expressed concerns that the ruling African National Congress (ANC) is aligning with anti-Western forces, potentially jeopardizing the continent's stability and relations with the US.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein of South Africa has sounded the alarm over the potential loss of the African continent to Russia, China, and Iran. He emphasizes the urgent need for the United States to remain engaged and support pro-Western nations in the region to counter the growing influence of these adversaries.
Chief Rabbi Goldstein's warning comes amidst South Africa's upcoming general election, where the ruling ANC faces a significant challenge from opposition parties. He expresses concern that the ANC's alignment with anti-Western forces, such as Russia and China, could undermine the country's democratic values and its relationship with the US.
Goldstein points to the Laax incident, a Greek-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier that came under attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels, as an example of the growing influence of Iran in the region. The ship was carrying a cargo of grain bound for Iran, which has become the Houthis' main benefactor.
The attack on the Laax is part of a pattern of Houthi attacks on shipping throughout the Red Sea corridor, aiming to pressure Israel and the West to end the conflict in Gaza. However, Goldstein notes that as shipping through the corridor has declined due to the attacks, the Houthis have targeted vessels associated with Iran, China, and Russia.
Goldstein believes that the US is losing ground in Africa to adversaries who are making significant investments in economic, diplomatic, and military resources on the continent. He calls on the US to recognize the strategic importance of Africa and to engage pro-Western nations in the region to promote democracy, stability, and economic development.
The Chief Rabbi emphasizes the need for the US to provide support to countries in Africa that are facing internal or external threats, such as South Africa, Mozambique, and Ethiopia. He also advocates for increased diplomatic engagement and a more robust military presence in the region to deter aggression from hostile forces.
Goldstein warns that if the US fails to act, it risks losing Africa to Russia, China, and Iran, which could have significant consequences for regional and global security. He urges the US to adopt a more proactive and assertive policy towards Africa to maintain its influence and protect its interests.
