Supercell's latest mobile game, Squad Busters, has racked up impressive numbers in its first thirty days, with net revenue hitting $24 million and installs reaching 40 million. However, underlying trends indicate a potential decline in Supercell's dominance in the mobile gaming market.
Supercell's latest mobile game, Squad Busters, has made a solid start, bringing in $24 million in net revenue and attracting 40 million installs in its first thirty days. However, a closer look at the data reveals some concerning trends for the Finnish game developer.
While Squad Busters' performance is certainly respectable, it falls short of the stellar achievements of Supercell's previous releases. Brawl Stars, released in 2018, raked in $43 million in its first thirty days, while Clash Royale, launched in 2016, generated over $115 million.
Squad Busters: A Solid Start, But Concerns Linger for Supercell
Another worrying sign for Supercell is the decline in spending since Squad Busters' launch. Net revenue has steadily decreased, a trend that extends to the number of installs, which peaked at 30 million in the first week and then dropped below five million by the end of the thirty-day period.
These declining metrics raise the question of whether Supercell is facing a case of "Supercell fatigue." Squad Busters, despite its high quality, falls within a niche that Supercell has firmly established with previous titles. This may suggest that players are becoming saturated with the company's offerings.
For comparison, Honkai Star Rail, a mobile game released by miHoYo, generated $190 million in its first month, far surpassing Squad Busters. This shows that despite Supercell's reputation for excellence, it is not immune to competition.
Only time will tell how Squad Busters will perform in the long run. Supercell has a proven track record of nurturing its games and maintaining player engagement. However, the current trends raise concerns about the company's ability to sustain its dominance in the mobile gaming market.
