GOP House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik delivered a forceful address to the Israeli parliament, criticizing President Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict and pledging steadfast American support for the Jewish state.
In a speech delivered at the Knesset on Sunday, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik lambasted President Biden for his administration's actions during the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas, calling them "absurd" and detrimental to the security of the Jewish state.
Stefanik, the highest-ranking House member to visit Israel since the October terrorist attacks, characterized the Biden administration's decision to pause a weapons shipment to Israel as an unconscionable dereliction of duty. She condemned the administration's handling of the conflict, including its extension of a waiver allowing Iran access to billions of dollars in frozen funds.
In her speech, Stefanik asserted that there was "no excuse" for the Biden administration's actions, which she argued had endangered Israel's security. She criticized the administration for its appeasement of Iran, the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.
"Full stop," Stefanik declared. "America stands with Israel."
Stefanik has been a vocal supporter of Israel throughout her career, serving on both the House Armed Services and House Intelligence committees. In her remarks, she emphasized her "lifelong admiration, support, and friendship" for Israel and the Jewish people.
She praised former President Trump for his administration's record on Israel, highlighting his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and his relocation of the U.S. embassy to the city.
Stefanik also criticized Ivy League universities for their responses to anti-Israel protests and encampments, arguing that they have allowed "extremism" to flourish in elite academic institutions.
"Most Americans feel a strong connection to your people," she said. "They have opened their hearts to you in this dark hour."
Stefanik concluded her speech by reaffirming the Republican Party's unwavering commitment to the security and prosperity of Israel. She pledged to support every measure before Congress that would aid Israel and to continue partnering with the Jewish state in its defense against threats.
The speech was greeted with warm applause from members of the Knesset, who have expressed growing concern over the Biden administration's Middle East policies. Stefanik's visit and speech were seen as a positive sign for the U.S.-Israel relationship, which has faced some challenges under the Biden administration.
