Former CNN host Brian Stelter has raised apprehensions about the upcoming presidential debate between former President Trump and President Biden, expressing concern that Trump's behavior could overshadow substance.

"I think the danger or the fear with this debate is that Donald Trump's going to try to make it much more about personality and personal issues," Stelter said.
He emphasized the potential impact of Trump's insults and demeaning remarks on Biden, suggesting that such moments could dominate the debate and overshadow policy disagreements.

"Just to boil it down, how cruel is Trump going to be? How cruel will he be to Biden?" Stelter asked.
The debate, scheduled for June 27 in Atlanta, has elicited speculation about how both candidates will navigate the event. Stelter described Trump as a more unpredictable opponent compared to Biden.

"For Trump, it's anyone's guess," Stelter said. "He's claiming he's not going to be prepping the way Biden is, so it's anyone's guess."
In contrast, Stelter viewed the debate as an opportunity for Biden to highlight Trump's controversies and scandals.
"Those are the moments I think Biden's going to want to create to try to clip," Stelter said.
Stelter's analysis draws from his interviews with former debate moderators for Vanity Fair. He noted that previous debates have typically focused on policy issues, but he acknowledged that both candidates may assume that voters are not fully informed about politics and Trump's legal battles.
The former CNN host emphasized the contrasting approaches of Trump and Biden in the final days before the debate.
Trump has opted for private meetings with allies and campaign events, while Biden has focused on preparation with his advisers at Camp David.
Stelter's concerns reflect the potential for Trump's behavior to dominate media coverage and overshadow substantive discussions. He noted that Trump's unpredictable nature could introduce an element of uncertainty into the debate and potentially damage both candidates' chances of swaying undecided voters.
