Late-night host Stephen Colbert delivers a scathing critique of President Biden's debate performance, mocking his handlers' damage control attempts and questioning his ability to continue in office.
Stephen Colbert, the diehard Biden supporter and CBS late-night host, returned from his month-long hiatus with a barrage of jabs aimed at President Biden's recent debate performance and the subsequent efforts by his team to mitigate the damage.
In his opening monologue on Monday night, Colbert lamented, "This took a year off my life," referring to Biden's insistence that his debate performance was merely "a bad episode."

Acknowledging the growing clamor within the Democratic Party for Biden to step down, Colbert professed his lack of qualification to offer an opinion on the matter. "Should he stay? Should he go? Who am I to recommend?" he mused. "I don’t know what’s going on in Joe Biden’s mind, something I apparently have in common with Joe Biden."
Despite his support for Biden, Colbert couldn't resist mocking his failure to effectively counter former President Trump's attacks during the debate. "Going into it, all Joe had to do was allay people’s fears that he was too old. But instead, Biden’s shakiness allowed Trump to get away with 90 minutes of lies, racism, and weird golf brags, which is why a lot of people are saying this was the worst debate performance of all time," he asserted.

Colbert dismissed Biden's team's excuses for his poor debate performance, namely that he was suffering from a cold. "Ugh, I hate those summer colds where your voice gets hoarse, and your brain explodes," he quipped sarcastically.
He proceeded to grill Biden for his comments in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, in which Biden had downplayed his debate performance as "a bad episode." "Wrong. When ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ did a musical, that was a bad episode, OK? This took a year off my life," Colbert retorted.

Colbert's frustration was evident during an interview with CNN's Abby Phillip, when he questioned the decision to proceed with the debate despite its negative impact on Biden. "Why?" he demanded. "You know [Trump's] going to lie, and the other guy is President of the United States who should not be dignifying this criminal who tried to overthrow democracy," he argued.
Colbert's criticism extends beyond his late-night show. He recently hosted a campaign fundraiser in New York City featuring Biden, former Presidents Obama and Clinton, which raised a hefty $26 million.
Neither the Biden campaign nor the White House responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
