Clifton Williams, a 50-year-old homeless man, was charged with second-degree assault for allegedly punching the 66-year-old actor in the face, leaving him with a black eye and bleeding.

According to law enforcement sources, Williams changed his appearance and fled Manhattan after the attack. He was eventually tracked down and taken into custody.

The incident occurred around noon on May 8th on Third Avenue in Manhattan. A man in blue walked up to Buscemi and punched him in the face without provocation.

Witnesses reported that Buscemi, a former firefighter who volunteered at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks, chased after his attacker but lost sight of him.

Surveillance footage released by the NYPD showed Williams in a blue shirt and sweatpants, carrying a backpack near the scene of the crime.

Buscemi was treated for his injuries at a hospital and has since returned to work. His representatives released a statement saying that he is doing well and appreciates the support he has received.

The motive for the attack remains unclear.

The arrest of Williams comes after a string of other random attacks on high-profile individuals in New York City. In March, "Boardwalk Empire" star Michael Stuhlbarg was attacked in a separate incident in Manhattan.

These attacks have raised concerns about safety in the city, particularly for celebrities and public figures.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information about Williams or the assault on Buscemi to contact the authorities.
