SWAT teams raided the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home of rapper Sean Kingston on Thursday, September 15th, 2023, resulting in the arrest of his mother, Karen Kingston. The raid was part of an ongoing investigation into a series of armed robberies in the area.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - SWAT teams descended upon the Fort Lauderdale mansion of rapper Sean Kingston in a pre-dawn raid on Thursday, September 15th, 2023. The raid resulted in the arrest of Kingston's mother, Karen Kingston, who is accused of involvement in a string of armed robberies in the area.
According to law enforcement officials, the raid was the culmination of a months-long investigation into a series of armed robberies targeting jewelry stores and luxury car dealerships in South Florida.
"We have been tracking the movements of a criminal organization believed to be responsible for these robberies," said Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Patrick Lynn. "Today's raid is a significant step in dismantling this organization and bringing those responsible to justice."
Sean Kingston was not present at the time of the raid. According to his lawyer, he was in New York City for a recording session.
Karen Kingston, 63, was taken into custody without incident. She is facing charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and money laundering.
Investigators believe Karen Kingston was an active participant in the robberies, allegedly providing surveillance and transportation for the perpetrators.
"We have evidence that she played a key role in planning and executing these crimes," said Lynn. "She is a dangerous individual who has been involved in a sophisticated criminal enterprise."
The raid on Kingston's home is part of a wider crackdown on organized crime in South Florida. In recent months, law enforcement agencies have made several high-profile arrests of individuals linked to criminal organizations.
"We are committed to making our communities safe," said Lynn. "We will not tolerate violent crime or the activities of criminal organizations that terrorize our neighborhoods."
The investigation into the armed robbery ring is ongoing. Law enforcement officials believe there may be other suspects involved who have not yet been apprehended.
Sean Kingston, 32, is known for his hit songs "Beautiful Girls" and "Fire Burning." He has won numerous music awards and has a significant following on social media.
