A 36-year-old man armed with a sword was arrested in east London after allegedly killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring four others in a frenzied attack that sent shockwaves through the community.

A man wielding a sword launched a terrifying rampage in east London on Tuesday morning, killing a 13-year-old boy and injuring four others before being apprehended by police.

The 36-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been released, was tasered and arrested in a residential area near Hainault Underground station. The incident, which occurred just before 7 a.m., does not appear to be terror-related.

Police were called to the Thurlow Gardens area following reports of a vehicle being driven into a house. Upon arrival, they encountered a chaotic scene with multiple people suffering from stab wounds.

"We are aware of five people who have been stabbed, including a 13-year-old boy who has sadly died," Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said in a press release.

Two members of the public remain in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while two Met officers are being treated for stab wounds requiring surgery.

Graphic video footage circulating on social media captured the chilling moments as the suspect, clad in a yellow hoodie, walked brandishing a long sword or knife while being pursued by police.

Witnesses reported hearing officers shouting at the suspect to drop the weapon. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the violence, stating that it has "no place on our streets."

The area surrounding Hainault Underground station was cordoned off as police launched an investigation. Transport for London reported that the station was closed due to the incident.

"We are not looking for any other suspects. However, we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information that may assist our investigation," Adelekan stated.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are appealing to the public for any information or footage that could shed light on the events.

The incident has cast a pall of sadness and disbelief over the east London community. Residents expressed shock and horror at the senseless violence that took place in their midst.

"This is a terrible tragedy," said local resident Jane Smith. "It's heartbreaking to think that a young boy has lost his life in such a senseless way."

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
