Tencent's new esports partnership program for Honor of Kings aims to bolster the international competitive scene of the popular MOBA game.
Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, is making a significant investment in the burgeoning esports scene of its domestic super-hit, Honor of Kings. The company has unveiled an ambitious esports partnership program that aims to elevate the game's international professional competitive presence.
Tencent's commitment to Honor of Kings' esports scene is evident in its substantial financial investment. In January, the company pledged over $15 million to support the development of the competitive ecosystem. This funding will be used to incentivize participation, provide promotional support, and foster the growth of the program over time.
As part of the partnership program, Tencent has announced key partner teams from various regions:
* Rex Regum Qeon (Southeast Asia)
* Isurus (Latin America)
* Fut Esports (Türkiye)
Partner teams for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa will be announced on June 12th and 11th, respectively. These teams will receive priority invitations to tournaments, access to exclusive resources, and promotional support from Tencent.
Tencent's investment in Honor of Kings' esports scene is driven by the ambitions of competing with League of Legends, its rival MOBA game. League of Legends has dominated the global esports scene for over a decade, and Tencent aims to challenge this dominance with Honor of Kings.
Some esports enthusiasts have questioned the wisdom of skipping over organic growth in the competitive scene. However, Tencent's financial muscle can significantly accelerate the process of establishing Honor of Kings as a major international esport.
Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games have been a mainstay of the esports scene since the early days of Defense of the Ancients (DotA). These games combine strategy, teamwork, and intense competition, making them highly engaging for both players and spectators.
Tencent's esports partnership program is a clear indication of the company's international ambitions for Honor of Kings. The game has already achieved tremendous success in China, and Tencent is now looking to replicate that success globally.
Tencent's esports partnership program for Honor of Kings is a bold move that aims to shake up the established esports landscape. With substantial financial backing and key partnerships in place, Honor of Kings is poised to become a major player in the international esports scene. As the game's international release approaches, the esports community will eagerly await the results of Tencent's ambitious investment.
