Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell exhibited impressive agility on the field in a video posted to social media, showcasing his recovery progress just three weeks after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg.
In a testament to his resilience and determination, Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell demonstrated his remarkable recovery in a video shared on social media over the weekend. The footage depicted the second-year wideout running routes with his trainer, mere weeks after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
The video, posted to Instagram by trainer Delfonte Diamond, showcased Dell's agility and speed as he performed drills at the University of Houston's indoor training facility. The 24-year-old receiver showed no signs of diminished abilities, moving fluidly and executing routes with precision.
"He looked good," Diamond told KPRC, highlighting Dell's progress after being one of 10 people injured during a shootout at a Florida bar in April. "It's the real deal. He ain't lost a step. Even though that stuff happened, three is ready to go."
Diamond further emphasized Dell's mental fortitude, stating, "His mental is good."
Dell, a third round draft pick out of Houston in 2023, sustained a gunshot wound on April 27 when a 16-year-old opened fire after an altercation at a party in Sanford, north of Orlando. Police reported that another unidentified male also fired shots in response.
The shootout was apprehended when an unnamed security guard tackled the shooter.
The Texans released a statement shortly after the incident, confirming that Dell suffered a "minor wound" and was eventually released from the hospital. Sources told KPRC that a bullet pierced the back of Dell's leg and exited through the front.
Texans owner Cal McNair expressed optimism earlier this month, stating that Dell was expected to make a "full recovery."
"We saw him in the office the other day, and he looked good, in good spirits," McNair said. "But he'll have to rehab and get back to where he was."
It remains uncertain whether Dell will be available for OTAs, which commenced on Monday. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Dell's remarkable recovery is a testament to his dedication and determination. His return to the field, so soon after sustaining such a traumatic injury, speaks volumes about his character and his unwavering pursuit of his athletic goals. The Texans and their fans can take solace in the fact that Dell is well on his way to resuming his promising NFL career.
