Head coach Steve Sarkisian has high hopes for his team this season, citing their depth and leadership as key factors. "A lot of these players have been here for two, three, and four years now and have really grown up in the culture," Sarkisian said. "We've got great leadership, but I also think we've got great depth."

The Longhorns' roster boasts a strong foundation, with 11 former players making the jump to the NFL in the offseason. However, talent rankings suggest that Texas has adequately replaced those losses. They currently rank sixth in the nation in 247 Sports' talent composite and secured the fifth-best transfer portal class this past offseason.

Among those returning is star quarterback Quinn Ewers, who decided to stay at Austin instead of entering the NFL Draft. Sarkisian has tasked Ewers with leading the Longhorns this season, a responsibility he has embraced with enthusiasm. "This is your team, go lead them," Sarkisian told Ewers. "It was about leadership," Sarkisian explained. "We knew we were going to have to replace all those pieces and we knew were going to have to bring in some transfers."

Ewers' leadership was evident in Texas' season-opening victory over Colorado State, where he threw for 260 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. He also connected with two key transfers, Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, for touchdowns.

Despite the personnel changes at Michigan, Sarkisian remains focused on his team's preparation. "This is a great program," Sarkisian said. "As much as it is about this current team they have, it's about the program and the development that they've done."

The Longhorns will rely on their veteran offensive line, led by four returning starters, and their experienced defense, anchored by All-American linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, as they aim to overcome the challenge posed by Michigan.

With a deep and talented roster, a seasoned leadership core, and a proven quarterback at the helm, No. 3 Texas is poised to make a run for the national championship this season. Their matchup with No. 10 Michigan on Saturday will serve as an early test, but Sarkisian and his team are confident in their ability to emerge victorious.
