Lubbock Police Chief Steven Floyd was shot multiple times while responding to a disturbance call at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Floyd was rushed to University Medical Center, where he is currently undergoing surgery.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old David Valle, fled the scene on foot and remains at large. A massive manhunt is underway, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and the FBI.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing a man running from the scene. Valle is described as a Hispanic male standing approximately 5'8" and weighing around 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and jeans.

Floyd has been with the Lubbock Police Department for over 20 years and has served as chief since 2018. He is well-respected within the community and known for his dedication to law enforcement.

The ambush has sent shockwaves through the Lubbock community and throughout the state of Texas. Governor Greg Abbott has ordered a full investigation and has offered the state's full support to the Lubbock Police Department.

"This senseless act of violence against one of our law enforcement officers is a cowardly and despicable crime," Abbott said in a statement. "We will not rest until the suspect is brought to justice and held accountable for this heinous act."

The FBI is assisting in the manhunt, and a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to Valle's arrest and conviction.

The Lubbock Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Valle. Anyone with information is urged to call the Lubbock Police Department at (806) 775-2865 or Crime Stoppers at (806) 741-1000.

The investigation into the ambush is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
