Former New York Post deputy politics editor Emma-Jo Morris, who initially reported on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, says she was vindicated the moment the story was published. She recounts the backlash she faced and the media's dismissal of the story as "Russian disinformation."
Former New York Post deputy politics editor Emma-Jo Morris has expressed her vindication over the Hunter Biden laptop story, which was initially dismissed as "Russian disinformation" but has since been confirmed as legitimate.
Morris, who had the lead byline on the initial bombshell report in October 2020, said she knew her reporting was accurate all along. "I thought it was insane, and almost beyond parody what I was watching, as the entire political establishment, intelligence community, media establishment, big tech, everyone just made up a story that I knew wasn't true," she told Fox News Digital.
The laptop, which contains videos and photos of drug use, sex acts, and sensitive business communications, has been confirmed by the FBI and is now being used as evidence in Hunter Biden's ongoing federal gun crime trial.
Morris described the media's reaction to the story as "outrageous." "It's kind of funny now to watch them all have to walk back this kind of crazy, outrageous claim that they had all made," she said.
Many media outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and The Washington Post, initially downplayed or ignored the story, casting doubt on its authenticity. Some journalists, such as CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl, even suggested that the laptop could not be verified.
However, in the months following the Post's initial report, several news organizations, including CNN, MSNBC, NBC News, CBS News, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, and NPR, have verified the laptop's legitimacy to some degree.
Morris believes that the media's initial skepticism stemmed from a desire to protect Joe Biden's presidential campaign. "They were just so invested in Joe Biden," she said. "They didn't want anything to interfere with that."
Morris's vindication comes as Hunter Biden's trial continues, with the laptop as a key piece of evidence. The laptop's contents have raised questions about potential influence-peddling schemes involving Hunter Biden and his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden.
Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to charges of making a false statement in the purchase of a gun, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.
The laptop saga has become a major source of controversy and has sparked a debate about media bias and the role of technology companies in the dissemination of information. Morris's vindication shows that the truth can eventually prevail, even when powerful forces try to suppress it.
