In the pages of The New Yorker, acclaimed actor Nicolas Cage has shed light on his evolving journey as a father to three children from three different relationships. Reflecting on his unexpected path, Cage candidly acknowledges that it differs from his initial aspirations for family life.

"It's not what I had originally thought would happen," Cage admits. "I would have three different children with three different moms." Nonetheless, he embraces the diverse experiences that each child brings, acknowledging that their individual personalities demand varying levels of attention.

Cage, 57, shares his eldest son, Weston, 33, with ex-girlfriend Christina Fulton, his middle son, Kal-El, 18, with his third wife, Alice Kim, and his 22-month-old daughter, August, with his current wife, Riko Shibata.

When asked about his current reading and viewing habits, Cage jokingly admits to prioritizing raising his daughter over literary pursuits. As August is his first daughter, the actor confides in the distinct challenges and protective instincts that come with being a girl dad.

"Being a dad – to me, it's not an art form, it's… How do I put this? It's like breathing," Cage declares. "Everything is about her. You know, I can make a movie or not make a movie. I can't stop being a dad. With her, it's life. It's my survival."

Cage and Shibata, 26, wed in Las Vegas in February 2021. Their union was the culmination of a chance encounter in Japan while Cage was filming "Prisoners of the Ghostland." The arrival of their daughter in September 2022 prompted Cage to reassess his priorities.

"Sixty is coming up. I'd like to read a book a week, I wanna spend more time with my daughter," Cage remarked in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight." "I'm taking more stock of what's important. Maybe not make quite as many movies."

Despite his intention to scale back his workload, Cage has recently taken on the challenging role of a serial killer in the upcoming film "Longlegs," set to premiere on July 12. The film's trailer features Cage's eerie voice, hinting at the unsettling transformation he will undergo.

"The monster is a highly, highly dangerous substance," Cage cautions. "The way it's moved, unveiled, deployed has to be treated very carefully. Your doors of perception are going to open, and your life is not going to be the same."

Cage's unique perspective on fatherhood and his enduring passion for his craft offer a glimpse into the multifaceted nature of life. As he embraces the responsibilities and joys of raising three children, Cage remains committed to exploring the boundaries of his talent and the depth of human experience.
