Netflix's "GROAT: The Greatest Roast Of All Time: Tom Brady" spared no one, with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ben Affleck facing merciless insults. While some took the punches in stride, Gisele Bündchen's family reportedly feels the pain of disrespectful jabs during the event.
Kim Kardashian's roast of Tom Brady was met with mixed reactions live, with a chorus of boos erupting as she took the stage. The awkward moment was later removed from the streaming version of the roast by Netflix.
Robbie Praw, Netflix's vice president of stand-up and comedy, explained that post-edits are standard practice for comedy specials and that no talent was consulted in this decision.
However, the night did not get better for Kardashian, who faced a pointed joke from Brady about her ex-husband Kanye "Ye" West.
Ben Affleck's attempt to defend Brady from online trolls was perceived as "unhinged" and "out of touch" by viewers.
Social media platforms buzzed with criticism, calling Affleck's rant "the worst part of the entire Roast."
Brady took a subtle jab at Affleck's less-revered films in his own closing remarks.
Almost every comedian took a swipe at Brady's ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, with jokes surrounding the divorce and her jiu-jitsu instructor boyfriend.
A source told People magazine that Brady's children have been "affected" by the special, while Bündchen is reportedly "deeply disappointed" with the "disrespectful portrayal" of her family.
Will Ferrell's appearance as his "Anchorman" character Ron Burgundy received a mixed reception.
While some viewers enjoyed the actor's bit, others voiced their disdain for the outdated character's return.
Through the various insults and jabs, Tom Brady maintained a good-natured demeanor and delivered his own witty remarks.
At the end of the night, he joked about Gisele's jiu-jitsu instructor and acknowledged the impact of his divorce on his children.
Despite the public roasting, Brady showed resilience and a willingness to laugh at himself. The event remains a testament to the competitive and often humorous nature of the sports and entertainment industries.
