KTTH Seattle radio host Jason Rantz unveils the devastating impact of 'safe drug kits' under so-called "harm reduction" strategies. These taxpayer-funded giveaways, embraced by the Biden-Harris administration, have normalized drug use, increased addiction, and fueled soaring overdose deaths, open-air drug markets, and public safety collapses.

In cities across the country, it has become alarmingly easy to obtain taxpayer-funded meth pipes and fentanyl freebasing kits. These "safe drug kits," part of the Biden-Harris administration's "harm reduction" strategies, present themselves as a solution to the drug crisis, but in reality, they have made it worse.

Harm reduction strategies initially sought to mitigate the negative effects of drug use by providing clean needles, pipes, and other paraphernalia to prevent the spread of diseases like HIV and hepatitis. The premise was that people will use drugs regardless of our disapproval, so why not make it "safer"?

However, these strategies have normalized drug use, creating more addicts and leaving cities grappling with rising overdose deaths, open-air drug markets, and the collapse of public safety. In Seattle, where I live, I obtained taxpayer-funded drug kits from Public Health Seattle-King County with ease, simply by asking for a "party kit."

I was provided with a choice of meth pipes, cookers, tin foil, and instructions on freebasing fentanyl. There was no concern expressed about my potential addiction, dealer status, or connection to detox services. This is a glaring example of harm reduction in practice—facilitating drug use at taxpayer expense.

Vice President Kamala Harris's support for drug legalization and harm reduction measures is deeply concerning. Her policies would spread these destructive practices to communities nationwide, exacerbating the problems already seen in cities like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

Supervised consumption sites, where addicts can use drugs under medical supervision, have become magnets for dealers and resulted in war zones with skyrocketing drug-related crime. San Francisco has seen a surge in fatal overdoses, primarily due to fentanyl, as harm reduction efforts there include distributing fentanyl test strips and aluminum foil.

Los Angeles has experienced a spike in homeless deaths as drug paraphernalia is distributed to addicts. Dallas activists are also embracing harm reduction, despite its illegality under state law. Drug fatalities in Texas, with Dallas County as the epicenter, continue to rise steadily.

The Biden-Harris administration's National Drug Control Strategy prioritizes harm reduction interventions to reduce overdose deaths and promote treatment. However, these efforts have failed to deliver meaningful results on either goal.

Harm reduction policies enable addiction by providing the means for continued drug use. Instead of empowering addicts to escape their cycle of dependency, it traps them in it. Cities across the country are already reeling from the damage caused by these misguided policies.

The solution to the drug crisis lies in emphasizing treatment, recovery, and accountability, not in handing out drug paraphernalia. Compassion demands that we help addicts break free from their addictions, not perpetuate them. The spread of harm reduction policies under a potential President Harris administration is a grave threat to public health and safety, and we cannot allow it to happen.
