The first official trailer for the upcoming romantic drama film "It Ends With Us," based on the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover, has been released, generating both excitement and controversy among fans.
The highly anticipated first trailer for the upcoming romantic drama film "It Ends With Us," based on the beloved novel by Colleen Hoover, has finally been released, setting social media abuzz with both excitement and controversy.
The trailer opens to the haunting strains of Taylor Swift's "My Tears Ricochet" from her Grammy Award-winning album, "folklore," as it introduces the audience to the whimsical world of the book. Blake Lively takes on the lead role of Lily Bloom, a young florist who falls for the charming yet troubled neurosurgeon, Ryle Kincaid, played by Justin Baldoni.
The trailer takes viewers on a whirlwind journey through critical scenes from the novel, including the opening of Bloom's flower shop, her first encounter with Kincaid on the rooftop of his building, and their serendipitous reunion a year later. The trailer is a faithful adaptation of the book, capturing many of its most memorable moments and iconic lines.
However, the casting choices have been a source of contention among fans. Lively, who is 36, and Baldoni, who is 40, were initially announced as the leads in early 2023, sparking debate as the characters in the novel are depicted as being in their 20s. Fans took to social media to express their preferences for other actors, such as Abigail Cowen, Holland Roden, and Theo James.
The controversy continued with the release of the trailer, with some fans expressing their disappointment with the casting decisions. "Love the actors, but this cast just isn't it…" wrote one user on Twitter. Another responded, "Literally just sent this trailer to my sister and said the same thing cause we loved this book, but I don't see this cast as the characters…maybe Atlas…"
Despite the casting controversy, filming has concluded, and the release date is set for August 9, 2024. Brandon Sklenar has been cast as Atlas Corrigan, Bloom's tender childhood love, adding another layer of complexity to the story.
During filming in New York City, fans once again voiced their concerns about the wardrobe choices for Lively's character, Lily Bloom. Some criticized the baggy clothes, plaid patterns, and layers of fabrics as being unflattering and uncharacteristic of the character.
Despite the mixed reactions, the film remains highly anticipated by fans of the book. The trailer has garnered millions of views on social media, and the film is expected to be a box office success. Whether the casting choices ultimately satisfy fans remains to be seen, but the film promises to be a captivating and emotional adaptation of Hoover's bestselling novel.
