The friendly rivalry between the New York Yankees and Mets announcers has taken a playful turn, with each booth taking gentle jabs at the other's claims to greatness.

The Crosstown Showdown between the New York Yankees and Mets has always been filled with intense competition, but now, the battle has extended to the broadcast booths. It all started when Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay expressed his displeasure over an advertisement for the Mets booth that ran on his own radio show. Kay, known for his passionate defense of his YES Network colleagues, declared that he would "take them over anyone."

Not one to miss an opportunity, the Mets announcers on SNY took to the airwaves during a rain delay in the second game of the Subway Series to playfully return fire. Play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen initially praised the Yankees' new "very talented young [radio] broadcaster," Emmanuel Berbari, but analyst Ron Darling couldn't resist asking, "How does he feel about our show?"

Cohen, a longtime friend of Kay in the broadcasting business, responded with a mischievous smile, "Uhhh I don’t think he really had any opinion."

"I heard it was the best rain in Major League Baseball," quipped fellow former Met and analyst Keith Hernandez, referencing a playful post Kay had made on Twitter during the rain delay.

Cohen, sensing that the banter was getting a bit too heated, attempted to calm the waters by suggesting it was time to play some baseball. However, Hernandez couldn't resist a parting shot, saying "Had to go there."

Despite the lighthearted barbs, Kay has emphasized that any perceived beef between the two booths is purely for fun and that he would squash any real conflict.

The Mets ultimately swept the two-game series with a dominant 12-2 victory on Wednesday, continuing their hot streak that has seen them post the best record in the majors in June. Meanwhile, the Yankees have endured a recent slump, losing nine of their last 12 games after a blistering start to the season.
