The co-hosts of ABC's "The View" were jubilant on Friday, May 31st, 2024, following the conviction of former President Donald Trump in a historic criminal trial in New York. The hosts celebrated the news as a victory for the country and for themselves personally.

"I felt like America won," said co-host Sunny Hostin. "I felt like New York won. I felt like the Manhattan DA's office won. I felt like I won."

"I got so excited, I started leaking a little bit," quipped co-host Joy Behar upon hearing the news.

All six of the show's hosts, including Ana Navarro, a staunch anti-Trump Republican, appeared at the table with broad smiles, eager to bask in the news. They recounted the moment they learned of the guilty verdict, with co-host Whoopi Goldberg dramatically reading the news live on air to cheers and applause from the audience.

Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016, to silence her about a prior alleged affair with Trump.

The hosts expressed a sense of relief and satisfaction over the conviction.

"He was cheap, and that's what you get," said Goldberg.

"There was a jury of 12. They all to a person said he was guilty on all 34 counts," said Behar.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former Trump aide who has become an outspoken critic, said she was shocked but not surprised by the outcome.

"Knowing Donald Trump personally, there's something in him that thinks he's untouchable and will get away with everything. And even though this was the likely outcome, I don't think he thought it was going to come," she said.

Griffin added that with the appeals process and the presidential election just five months away, it was possible that Trump could avoid significant consequences.

Navarro described Trump's conviction as a somber but deserved reckoning.

"This is a man who made my life a living hell for four years, has made the life of our country a living hell for six years, and so he deserves to be accountable," said Navarro.

Hostin expressed joy and excitement, comparing the victory to the New York Knicks winning the NBA Finals.

"I'm not somber at all," Hostin said. "This is like the Knicks winning the NBA championship. This is amazing."

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has vowed to appeal the conviction. He has repeatedly attacked the trial, the prosecutors, and the judge, alleging a "witch hunt" against him.
