Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announces arrests in connection with the investigation into the hit-and-run incident involving Deputy Kalin Hall, who was run over by a suspect's vehicle on Independence Day.
Three individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the horrific hit-and-run incident that left Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy Kalin Hall severely injured. Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed outrage over the senseless act of violence during a press conference on Tuesday.
On July 5, around midnight, Deputy Hall initiated a traffic stop on a black BMW, but the suspect fled at an alarming speed. About 20 minutes later, Hall attempted another traffic stop, exiting his vehicle before the suspect rammed into him and fled the scene.

Detectives located the suspect's abandoned vehicle nearby and identified William Todd Lewis Jr., 24, as the driver. Lewis faces an array of charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of cannabis, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and fleeing to elude.
Zachary Carnegie, 24, was also arrested for driving a rental car that Lewis and his accomplice allegedly used to escape arrest. Carnegie is facing charges related to the possession of Xanax without authorization.

Lewis' girlfriend has been charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with physical evidence. According to deputies, Lewis contacted her after the hit-and-run and informed her of the incident.
Sheriff Chronister believes that Lewis' charges will be upgraded to attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and that there will be at least one more arrest in this case.

Deputy Hall, a veteran of HCSO for 11 years, sustained a fractured leg and underwent surgery. He expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from his family, friends, and the community.
"It's been a tough time, but it's been a blessing at the same time," Hall said. "Each day I get closer to being back on the road, serving and protecting my community."
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation, and further details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
