Tiger Woods' major struggles continued at Pinehurst No. 2, where he missed the cut at the U.S. Open for the second consecutive major. Since his triumph at the 2019 Masters, Woods has finished outside the top 20 in every major he's played in, marking his longest such streak since 1995-1996.

Tiger Woods' latest attempt to reignite his major glory days ended in disappointment as he missed the cut at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

The 15-time major champion had not missed consecutive major cuts since 2015, but a disappointing performance at the year's second major extended that streak.

After a promising start with a birdie on the first hole, Woods stumbled down the stretch, bogeying half of his final 12 holes on Thursday to card a 4-over 74.

Despite briefly dipping below the cut line with a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole on Friday, his hopes of making the weekend were extinguished with a subsequent 73.

Woods' struggles at the U.S. Open have been evident in recent years. He has not made the cut at the tournament since 2019, missing it from 2021 to 2023 and in 2020.

His best finish at Pinehurst No. 2 remains a tie for third in 1999, while he placed second to Michael Campbell in 2005. However, he missed the 2014 tournament when it was held at the famous course.

The 48-year-old has faced immense challenges since sustaining serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash in 2021. His quest for a record-breaking 16th major title continues to elude him, as he has not finished top 20 in any of the 13 majors he has played in since his last victory at the 2019 Masters.

Woods' last major win was a sixth Masters green jacket, but it has been a rough road since then. He finished 60th at the 2022 Masters, missed the cut at the 2022 PGA Championship, and now has missed consecutive cuts at this year's Masters and U.S. Open.

It's a significant departure from his previous consistency, as he never finished outside the top 20 in three consecutive majors from 1997 to 2012. He also managed to avoid missing back-to-back majors just four times in that stretch.

Between the 2013 PGA Championship and the 2018 U.S. Open, Woods' best major finish was a tie for 17th at Augusta. He briefly reignited hope with a sixth-place finish at the Open Championship, a second-place finish at the PGA Championship, and a 15th-place finish at the following Masters.

However, Woods' fortunes have taken a turn for the worse recently. In his last 25 majors, he has managed only four top-20 finishes.

Despite the setbacks, Woods remains a resilient competitor with a hunger for greatness. His pursuit of the major championship record continues, but at present, it remains an elusive goal.
