Title: Elaine Thompson-Herah's Olympic Hopes Uncertain After Apparent Achilles Injury

Sapo: Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah suffered a suspected Achilles injury during a Grand Prix event in New York City, raising concerns about her participation in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah suffered an apparent Achilles injury during the USATF New York City Grand Prix on Sunday, casting doubt over her participation in the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The Jamaican track star was competing in the 100-meter race at Icahn Stadium when she began to lose her early lead. She finished last with a time of 11.48 seconds and began to limp away from the finish line.

Thompson-Herah, 31, could be seen bent over in pain after taking off her right shoe. She was eventually carried off the track.

The injury occurred less than 50 days out from the Summer Games in Paris. Thompson-Herah is the defending champion in the women's 100-meter and 200-meter. She also won gold in the women's 4x100-meter relay at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In a post on Instagram shortly after the event, Thompson-Herah expressed uncertainty about her condition. "I felt something uncomfortable as I began to push," she wrote. "I still tried to go, but it got worse."

She added that she is "awaiting professional advice."

Thompson-Herah's injury comes amid a strong run of form. She has won the 100-meter and 200-meter races at the past two Diamond League finals and set a personal best in the 100-meter this season.

Her absence from the Paris Olympics would be a major setback for Jamaica's track and field team. Thompson-Herah is one of the country's most decorated athletes, having won eight Olympic medals, including five golds.

Jamaica's track and field Olympic trials are slated to begin on June 27. It is unclear whether Thompson-Herah will be fit enough to compete.
