Toledo Walleye Cruise Past Kansas City Mavericks 4-1

The Toledo Walleye took down the Kansas City Mavericks on the road, winning 4-1 on Friday night. Rookie forward Thomas Ebbing led the way with two goals, while goaltender Billy Christopoulos made 28 saves to earn his second win of the season.
The Toledo Walleye continued their hot start to the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Mavericks on Friday night at Cable Dahmer Arena.
Rookie forward Thomas Ebbing led the way for the Walleye with two goals, while Billy Christopoulos made 28 saves to earn his second win of the season.
The Walleye jumped out to an early lead when Ebbing scored his first goal of the game just 2:29 into the first period. Ebbing took a pass from Riley McCourt and fired a shot from the left circle that beat Mavericks goaltender Jeremy Helvig.
The Walleye extended their lead to 2-0 later in the first period when Conlan Keenan scored his first goal of the season. Keenan took a pass from Brandon Hawkins and fired a shot from the right circle that beat Helvig.
The Walleye took a 3-0 lead in the second period when Ebbing scored his second goal of the game. Ebbing took a pass from McCourt and fired a shot from the slot that beat Helvig.
The Mavericks finally got on the board late in the third period when Tyler Coulter scored a power-play goal. Coulter took a pass from Jake Chelios and fired a shot from the left circle that beat Christopoulos.
The Walleye added an empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining in the game when Marcus Vela scored his first goal of the season. Vela took a pass from McCourt and fired a shot from the right circle that beat Helvig.
The Walleye outshot the Mavericks 33-29 in the game. Christopoulos made 28 saves for the Walleye, while Helvig made 29 saves for the Mavericks.
The Walleye will return to action on Saturday night when they take on the Mavericks again at Cable Dahmer Arena.
