Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) discusses the goals and outstanding questions surrounding the investigation into the assassination attempt on former President Trump.

On July 13, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The perpetrator, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by law enforcement, while Trump sustained an injury to his ear. The incident sparked outrage from both Democrats and Republicans, who called for an investigation into the security lapses that led to the attack.

In response to the public outcry, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution establishing a task force to investigate the assassination attempt. The task force, which has subpoena authority, is comprised of seven Republicans and six Democrats.

One of the Democratic members of the task force, Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), recently spoke with Fox News Digital about the investigation. Crow said that the task force's primary goal is to "get to the bottom of what motivated this heinous act."

"More than two weeks later, Americans still have so many questions about what happened in Butler, Pennsylvania," Crow said. "I'm hoping this task force [figures out] why former President Trump was allowed to take the stage when there were active questions about security, and which people need to be held accountable for this breakdown in protocol."

Crow also expressed hope that the task force's bipartisan nature would lead to a "better outcome."

"It slows it down if we're fighting with each other," Crow said. "I think this is one where we've got to turn to each other and not on each other to make sure we get it done."

Another Democratic member of the task force, Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD), echoed Crow's sentiments.

"If we're fighting against each other and not speaking with one voice, it could give legs to some of the conspiracy theories that are out there," Ivey said.
