"It appears that Justice Alito is an insurrectionist-sympathizer, joined by his right-wing buddy Clarence Thomas," Jeffries said.

Alito and his wife, Martha-Ann, have come under fire for previously flying the "Appeal to Heaven" flag, which features a pine tree on a white background. The flag was common in the Revolutionary War, but lately has become associated with extremism because it was flown by rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

When asked about criticisms of Justices Alito and Clarence Thomas, Jeffries told Fox News' Chad Pergram that "the American people almost uniformly agree that the right-wing justices on the Supreme Court are completely and totally out of control."

Jeffries also commented that the high bench cannot police itself when it comes to ethics and that there have been significantly more "aggressively partisan, right wing, extreme decisions" since Trump nominated a trio of justices.

In a statement to Fox News, Alito's press secretary, Catherine Colbert, said: "Justice Alito and his wife flew the flag for a brief period in 2021 because they were told that it commemorated the 230th anniversary of the Battle of Saratoga during the Revolutionary War."

Colbert added that the Alitos "were not aware of the recent use of the flag by a small group of protesters on January 6, 2021."

The "Appeal to Heaven" flag was created in 1775 by George Washington's cousin, George Washington Custis. It was used by the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and was later adopted by the United States Navy.

In recent years, the flag has been flown by anti-government and white supremacist groups. It was also flown by rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The use of the flag by these groups has led to it being associated with extremism. As a result, some people have called for the flag to be banned.

However, others argue that the flag should not be banned because it is a symbol of American history. They say that the flag should not be judged by the actions of a few extremist groups.
