Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs receive multiple nominations at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, including for their collaboration on the hit song "Fast Car."
Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs have continued their unprecedented success with "Fast Car," earning multiple nominations at the upcoming 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards. Combs leads the nominations with eight nods, while Chapman shares a nomination with him for Single of the Year and Song of the Year for "Fast Car."
Chapman's resurgence with the song began with Combs' 2023 cover, which went platinum and became a No. 1 country hit. Chapman made history as the first Black woman with a sole songwriting credit to top the country charts.
"I never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I'm honored to be there," Chapman said in a statement. "I'm happy for Luke and his success and grateful that new fans have found and embraced 'Fast Car.'"
The song has earned Chapman a CMA Award for Song of the Year and a Grammy nomination for Combs for Best Country Solo Performance. Chapman performed the song with Combs at the Grammys, her first live performance in years.
"I want to thank Tracy Chapman for writing one of the greatest songs of all time," Combs said while accepting the CMA Award.
Beyond their "Fast Car" success, both Combs and Chapman are up for additional accolades at the ACMs. Combs is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, and Male Artist of the Year, among others. Chapman's Grammy-winning song is also nominated for Song of the Year.
The 2024 ACMs also feature a competitive race for the Triple Crown award, given to winners in the new artist, male/female/duo/group, and entertainer of the year categories. Combs and Lainey Wilson are both nominated for Entertainer of the Year, putting them in contention for the prestigious triple crown.
Morgan Wallen and Megan Moroney each received six nominations, with Moroney becoming the most-nominated woman at the awards show. First-time nominee Jelly Roll also made an impressive showing with four nominations, including for Entertainer of the Year.
The 59th Academy of Country Music Awards will be held on April 23, 2024, and will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video.
