A Florida man has been identified as the owner of a boat matching the description of one that struck and killed a 15-year-old ballerina over the weekend. Carlos Guillermo Alonso, 78, is cooperating with the investigation into the incident that claimed the life of Ella Riley Adler.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Ella Riley Adler, a freshman at Ransom Everglades School, fell into the water while wakeboarding behind a friend's boat in Key Biscayne, near Nixon Beach. A boat heading westbound struck Adler, fatally injuring her.
An incident report obtained by Fox News Digital reveals that Carlos Guillermo Alonso, a 78-year-old Florida resident, owns a white and blue center console boat matching the description of the vessel of interest in the incident.
Alonso's 42-foot Boston Whaler has been impounded by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), which is investigating the collision.
Alonso is cooperating with the investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. It is unclear whether Alonso was operating the boat at the time of the crash.
Alonso's attorney, Lauren Field Krasnoff, has stated that her client was "devastated" and had no knowledge of the incident until authorities contacted him.
Krasnoff has asserted that Alonso does not drink and had not consumed alcohol on the day of the incident. The incident report indicates that it is unknown whether alcohol was involved in the collision.
Adler was a talented dancer who had been cast as a ballerina in "The Nutcracker" and had performed with the Miami City Ballet at the Adrienne Arsht Center.
Her family described her as a bright and vibrant young woman with a passion for dance and a deep love for her family and friends.
Dozens of Adler's friends expressed their grief and shared tributes on her obituary page, remembering her infectious smile, positive attitude, and unwavering support.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levina Cava offered her condolences to the Adler family and called on the public to exercise better boat safety to prevent future tragedies.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
