Timothy Hoffman, the father of a young woman tragically murdered in a heartless catfish scheme, has met an untimely end during a memorial motorcycle ride held in her honor. The Anchorage Daily News reported that Hoffman, 58, lost control of his motorcycle near Wasilla on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a devastated family and community still reeling from the loss of his daughter.

Hoffman's wife, Barbara "Jeanie" Hoffman, was riding with him on the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. Tanya Chaison, engaged to Timothy Hoffman's brother, confirmed the tragic news to the newspaper.

In 2019, Cynthia Hoffman, the couple's beloved 19-year-old daughter, was killed in a sickening plot that targeted her through a catfish scheme. Denali Brehmer, a woman Hoffman considered her best friend, initiated an online relationship with Darin Schilmiller, an Indiana man who falsely claimed to be a millionaire. Schilmiller offered Brehmer a staggering $9 million to kill someone and document the act with photos and videos.

Brehmer allegedly enlisted the help of four friends, including Kayden McIntosh, Caleb Leyland, and two unnamed juveniles, to carry out the heinous crime. The group lured Cynthia Hoffman to a hiking trail, where they brutally murdered her before disposing of her body in the Eklutna River.

Brehmer captured the horrific act on camera and sent the grim footage to Schilmiller. Authorities apprehended the perpetrators, and Brehmer was later sentenced to 99 years in prison. Schilmiller received a similar sentence for his role in orchestrating the murder. Sentencing for the remaining two accomplices is scheduled for later this year.

During court hearings, Timothy Hoffman emerged as a vocal advocate for his daughter, often wearing a black leather motorcycle jacket and carrying his small support dog named Diego. Assistant District Attorney Patrick McKay, a lead prosecutor in the case, described Hoffman as "a zealous advocate" for his daughter, expressing shock and disbelief at his sudden passing.

McKay expressed sympathy for Hoffman's family and friends, noting that his death occurred while he was engaging in an act of remembrance for his beloved daughter. "I hope his family and friends take comfort in remembering that Tim died doing something he loved, with people he loved, in memory of someone he loved," McKay said.

Timothy Hoffman's tragic demise adds another layer of grief to the already heart-wrenching story of his daughter's murder. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated father and remembers the painful case that exemplified the dangers lurking in online interactions.
