A CrossFit Games athlete tragically drowned in Marine Creek Lake during a swimming competition on Thursday morning, casting a somber shadow over the prestigious event. The victim's identity is yet to be officially released, but reports have identified Serbian athlete Lazar Đukić as the individual who vanished during the 800-meter swim.
Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth, Texas, became the scene of a heartbreaking tragedy on Thursday morning when a CrossFit Games athlete drowned during a swimming competition. The Fort Worth Police Department is withholding the identity of the victim until the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's report is complete and the family is notified.
However, multiple sources have identified the deceased athlete as Lazar Đukić, a 28-year-old Serbian competitor. Đukić was last seen towards the end of the 800-meter swim, which was being livestreamed for the 2024 CrossFit Games.

The CrossFit Games announced the suspension of the day's remaining events following the drowning. "CrossFit is deeply saddened by the death of a CrossFit Games competitor during the swimming portion of Individual Event 1 at the 2024 CrossFit Games," the organization stated.
"We are fully cooperating with authorities and doing everything we can to support the family at this time. The remainder of today's events have been suspended. The well-being of competitors is our first priority, and we are heartbroken by this tragic event."

The event, scheduled to begin at 7 a.m., consisted of a 3½-mile run following the 800-meter swim. However, around 8 a.m., police and fire departments received a call, and aerial units spotted a boat searching near a buoy in the center of the lake.
The Fort Worth Fire Department ultimately recovered the body around 10 a.m. The Fort Worth Police and Fire Department have yet to respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

This incident marks the first time the CrossFit Games have been held in Fort Worth. The competition is a four-day event featuring athletes from 33 countries vying for the title of "Fittest on Earth."
Đukić, a seasoned competitor, had participated in several CrossFit Games, ranking third in Serbia and 88th worldwide among male competitors.
The CrossFit Games, known for its grueling physical challenges, has witnessed its share of setbacks and injuries over the years. However, the loss of an athlete's life during an event is a particularly devastating blow to the CrossFit community.
The incident serves as a solemn reminder of the risks associated with high-intensity competitions, and the importance of prioritizing safety and well-being in all athletic endeavors.
