The scenic shores of Kauai have been cast into mourning following a devastating helicopter crash that has left one person dead and two others unaccounted for. The tragic event unfolded on Thursday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to the Kaua'i County government, the helicopter, operated by Ali'i Kaua'i Air Tours and Charters, plunged into the ocean approximately a quarter mile offshore along the breathtaking Na Pali Coast. Emergency services received a distress call around 1:20 p.m. from hikers on the Kalalau Trail who witnessed the helicopter's descent.

Within hours, divers from the Kaua'i Fire Department recovered the body of one passenger around 2:25 p.m. However, the search for the remaining two individuals continued throughout the evening, as darkness hindered further aerial reconnaissance by the U.S. Coast Guard. As the sun dipped below the horizon, local search efforts were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of rescuers.
Kaua'i Police Chief Todd Raybuck expressed deep concern for the missing individuals and pledged a multi-agency response to locate them. "Our hearts go out to the families impacted by this tragedy," he stated. "We will continue working with our partners to locate the missing individuals and provide support during this difficult time."
