The Dearborn County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the toddler's death, but the autopsy results are still pending. Suboxone, a medication used to treat opioid addiction, is believed to be the cause of Azana's demise, according to the child's grandmother, Tawnya Wood.
Azana's parents were browsing through a thrift store in Dillsboro when their daughter found the backpack containing the suboxone pill. She ingested the substance, which tasted sweet and melted like candy. Initially, her parents thought it was just a sugary treat and continued their shopping.
