According to officials with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), all three suspects were males between the ages of 15 and 20. They fled the scene before police arrived.

Garcia was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to cover the expenses of his funeral and support his four children.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact LAPD's South Bureau Homicide Division detectives at 323-786-5111.

This tragic incident marks the seventh attack on LA Metro property between April 22 and May 21. Violence on public transit has become an increasing concern in the Greater Los Angeles area.

In response to this alarming trend, LA Mayor and Metro Board Chair Karen Bass has called for an immediate surge of law enforcement personnel across the transit system. The Metro Board has also passed a measure to provide more safety for the public by adding 260 officers to patrol the system daily.

"Violence on the streets that spills over onto our public transit systems is an increasing issue in the Greater Los Angeles area. Metro extends its condolences to the family and friends of the victim's family," a Metro spokesperson said in a statement.
