Two suspects, including a juvenile, have been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of an Arizona police officer and a civilian. The incident occurred at a home in Santan, District 4 of the Gila River Indian Community, around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, a beloved police officer and a civilian have lost their lives in a shooting incident that has shaken the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona. Two suspects, one of whom is a juvenile, have been taken into custody in connection with the heinous crime.

Officer Joshua Briese, a dedicated member of the Gila River Police Department, was responding to a disturbance call when he was tragically shot and killed along with an unnamed civilian. The incident unfolded at a residence in Santan, District 4, around 2 a.m. on Saturday.

Four other individuals, including another police officer, sustained injuries in the shooting. The names and motives of the suspects remain undisclosed as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the local police department conduct a thorough investigation. Both suspects are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during the shootout.

Joshua Briese, a young and promising officer, had joined the Gila River Police Department less than a year ago and was still undergoing field training at the time of the fatal incident. His father, a former sheriff's deputy, tragically passed away in a car crash in 2006, according to the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office.

The Gila River Police Department has confirmed that the incident involved a large crowd of people and that multiple gunshots were fired. A witness who requested anonymity expressed fear and shock upon hearing the gunshots.

"It was scary. I was scared when I heard the gunshots, we all dropped to the ground," the witness told KPNX.

Gila River Indian Community Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis expressed deep sorrow and condolences for the victims and their families in a statement.

"Nothing cuts deeper than a life cut short," Gov. Lewis said. "I know I speak for our entire community when I say that we grieve for our fallen and injured police officers and every community member touched by such tragic violence."

The Gila River Police Department is actively investigating the incident and could not be immediately reached for further comment. The FBI is assisting with the investigation and conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and sharing information to determine all angles of the case.

A "charging decision" for the two suspects will be made once the investigation is complete, according to the FBI.

The tragic loss of Officer Joshua Briese and the civilian victim has deeply saddened the Gila River Indian Community. The community is called upon to mourn their passing and support the injured officers and their families during this challenging time.
