New polls from Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin indicate that Vice President Kamala Harris has a slight edge over former President Trump among likely voters in these crucial swing states.

Fox News polling released this weekend reveals that the presidential race has undergone a significant transformation since Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Biden at the helm of the Democratic Party's national ticket last month. According to a series of polls conducted by Siena College for the New York Times, Harris now holds an advantage over Trump in three key battleground states.

In Michigan, Harris leads Trump by four points, garnering 50% of likely voter support compared to Trump's 46%. In Pennsylvania, Harris edges out Trump by a narrower two-point margin, with 48% of likely voters backing her compared to Trump's 46%. Wisconsin shows a slightly wider gap, with Harris leading by five points, earning 51% of likely voter support versus Trump's 46%.

These polls were conducted between August 5-9 and represent the latest data indicating a shift in the dynamics of the presidential race. Prior to Harris's ascendance as the Democratic nominee, Trump had enjoyed a slight polling advantage over Biden. However, Biden's withdrawal from the race and the subsequent coalescence of Democratic support around Harris have altered the equation.

In addition to Trump and Harris, the surveys also included Democrat turned independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Green Party candidate Jill Stein, and independent candidate Cornel West. Kennedy registered in the mid-single digits, while Stein and West received negligible support.

The polls were conducted slightly before and mostly after Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate on Tuesday. The two embarked on a series of large rallies in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan on Tuesday and Wednesday, highlighting the importance of these swing states in the campaign.

Known as the Democrats' "blue wall," these three states have been reliably won by the Democratic Party in presidential elections for nearly a quarter-century. In 2020, Biden narrowly carried all three, defeating Trump and reclaiming them for the Democrats. The states remain highly competitive in the 2024 presidential election.

The New York Times/Siena College polls have a sampling error of plus or minus 4.8 percentage points in Michigan, plus or minus 4.3 percentage points in Wisconsin, and plus or minus 4.2 percentage points in Pennsylvania.

Harris has experienced a surge in fundraising since becoming the Democratic nominee and naming Walz as her running mate. However, Trump campaign chief pollster Tony Fabrizio believes that Harris's momentum will prove short-lived. "We are witnessing a kind of out of body experience where we have suspended reality for a couple of weeks," he stated at a Trump campaign briefing.
