Former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have adopted starkly different media strategies, with Trump engaging in numerous interviews while Harris has limited her appearances.

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have pursued vastly different media strategies since Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, joined forces in August. Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, have granted at least 34 interviews, while Harris and Walz have only recently ended their media drought with a single CNN interview.

Trump's extensive media appearances include interviews with Fox News' Mark Levin, NBC News, Daily Mail, Dr. Phil, Alicia Acuna, Hugh Hewitt Radio, FOX Business, Theo Von, New York Post, WBRE News Wilkes-Barre, WLOS News 13 Asheville, Univision, and "FOX & Friends" twice. He has also made at least two other cable news appearances and a lengthy conversation with supporter Elon Musk.

Vance, a vocal critic of Harris's media avoidance, has also participated in numerous interviews with "FOX & Friends," CNN's John Berman, WBAY2, News 5 Cleveland, NBC News, "Meet the Press," No Spin News, WALB 10, "CBS Evening News," "The Brett Winterble Show," "Jesse Watters Primetime," "Fox News Sunday," "The Dan O'Donnell Show," ABC's "This Week," CBS' "Face the Nation," and CNN's "State of the Union."

Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized Harris's lack of solo interviews and policy proposals, attributing it to her inability to defend her record on the economy, border security, and foreign policy.

Harris's only interview to date has seen her defend her policy reversals on issues such as fracking and immigration while maintaining that her "values" remain unchanged. She also addressed her previous defense of President Joe Biden's mental acuity, which she later questioned.

Observers criticized Harris's presence of Walz during the CNN interview, suggesting that he protected her from challenging questions. Harris has yet to hold a formal press conference since becoming the Democratic nominee, opting for brief "gaggles" and off-the-record sessions with reporters.

Trump, in contrast, has held multiple press conferences lasting over an hour, fielding questions on a wide range of topics. It remains unclear whether Harris will grant interviews without Walz or hold a press conference before the election. She is scheduled to debate Trump on ABC News on September 10.

The stark contrast in media strategies highlights the different approaches the candidates are taking in their campaigns. Trump's aggressive outreach to the press suggests a desire to engage with voters directly and demonstrate his availability to answer questions. Harris's limited media appearances, on the other hand, raise questions about her willingness to face scrutiny and her ability to handle challenging situations without the support of her running mate.
