Congressional efforts to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump intensify as revelations emerge about security lapses and unanswered questions. Lawmakers express concern about the lack of access to a crucial protection plan and question the adequacy of security measures.
Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming has raised concerns about the alarming details surrounding the attempted assassination of former President Trump at a recent rally. Barrasso, who was briefed by the FBI on the matter, spoke exclusively to Fox News Digital, recounting his confrontation with the Secret Service Director and outlining the ongoing congressional efforts to obtain answers.
One glaring omission in the investigation has been the denial of access to the comprehensive Operations Report (Ops Report), which outlines the security plan for Trump's rally. A lawmaker present at the FBI briefing, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that this report was withheld from Congress. The Ops Report is crucial as it should have detailed the assignment of personnel responsible for covering the roof area from which the assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired.

According to Paul Mauro, a retired NYPD inspector and attorney, the absence of an Ops Report or its failure to address rooftop security constitutes a significant lapse. The FBI has declined to comment on the matter.
Despite several reported sightings, somehow, Crooks managed to slip through the security net and open fire on the rally crowd. One bullet narrowly missed Trump's ear, potentially life-threatening if not for a timely movement of his head. Beloved former fire chief Corey Comperatore heroically lost his life while shielding his family from the gunfire, while two others sustained serious injuries.

Mauro has been highly critical of the security arrangements, particularly the lack of a designated hospital car and an evacuation plan with a direct route to the hospital. He believes this indicates a "casual," under-resourced approach without a clear leadership structure.
Adding to the concern, the Secret Service was quick to deflect blame to local law enforcement, leading Mauro to believe they are in "cover your a** mode." He emphasizes that local officials were not solely responsible for the lapses.

Following the shooting, the House Oversight Committee, led by Representative James Comer (R-Ky.), announced a hearing for Monday to question Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. Comer has subpoenaed Cheatle to appear, demonstrating the seriousness with which Congress is pursuing this matter.
Mauro believes the involvement of the Oversight Committee is crucial to monitor the investigation conducted by the FBI. He expresses his skepticism towards the FBI's leadership, citing a string of failures in recent times.

The Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General (DHS OIG) has also initiated a review of the security measures implemented by the Secret Service. This review will focus on the preparedness and operations of the Counter Sniper Team.
The DHS OIG emphasizes that they will consider other reviews related to Secret Service programs and will collaborate with other law enforcement partners as needed. The ongoing efforts to unravel the truth and address the security lapses surrounding the Trump assassination attempt continue, with Congress playing a vital role in demanding accountability.
