According to reports, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, purchased 50 rounds of ammunition from the local gun shop Allegheny Arms before opening fire at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The FBI has not yet confirmed the report but has completed a review of Crooks' phone.

Investigators have determined that Crooks used his father's gun during the shooting, which struck Trump in the ear and injured two other people. The incident left one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, 50, deceased.

According to reports, Crooks' parents are registered professional counselors in Pennsylvania. The FBI has revealed that a search of Crooks' vehicle revealed bomb-making materials, the purpose of which remains unclear. Investigators also found a transmitter in his possession.

As the investigation continues, the FBI has stated that Crooks acted alone. However, a motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.

Crooks has been described as a withdrawn and insular loner who was reportedly subject to relentless bullying. Despite registering as a Republican, he donated to a progressive organization in 2021, adding to the mystery surrounding his motives.

Crooks was shot and killed by snipers after opening fire at the rally at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
