Former President Trump leads incumbent President Biden on crucial issues shaping voter decisions, including the economy, border security, and physical and mental fitness.
Former President Donald Trump has emerged as the preferred candidate on a majority of key issues among voters, according to the first Fox News Power Rankings Issues Tracker.
Trump holds substantial leads in areas crucial to voters, including the economy (15 points), border and immigration (18 points), foreign policy (7 points), and crime/guns (7 points). These advantages highlight Trump's appeal to voters concerned about these pressing issues.
The economy has become a significant concern for Americans grappling with rising inflation. Trump's consistent double-digit advantages on the issue reflect his success in framing the economic challenges facing the nation under Biden's leadership.
While the Biden administration points to low unemployment and GDP growth, voters remain unimpressed, holding the administration equally accountable for inflation.
On the issue of abortion, President Biden enjoys a 12-point lead, highlighting its importance among voters. In a recent Fox News poll, abortion ranked among the top "deal-breaker" issues for suburban women, Black voters, college graduates, and voters under 30.
Trump's support for state control over abortion and exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother has failed to sway a majority of voters, who continue to support legalized abortion in most cases.
The border and immigration remain a polarizing issue, with Trump holding an 18-point advantage. Biden's low ratings stem from the influx of illegal immigrants during his administration. Trump's emphasis on border security resonates with voters concerned about the surge in illegal crossings.
Despite media attention and Trump's efforts to delegitimize the 2020 election, voters trust Biden on issues related to democracy and elections.
Biden holds a 7-point lead on election integrity, 14 points on ensuring fair elections, and 7 points on protecting democracy. These advantages suggest that voters view Biden as more reliable in safeguarding democratic values.
Trump also enjoys a modest lead in foreign policy, particularly on handling the Israel-Hamas and Ukraine-Russia conflicts.
Voters trust Trump to enhance America's global standing, giving him a 7-point advantage over Biden. This perception may stem from Trump's emphasis on "America First" policies and his experience in international negotiations.
While Trump dominates on key issues, the playing field levels regarding candidate qualities. Biden holds a strong advantage in honesty (15 points) and temperament (9 points), while voters are divided on "sharing your values."
Trump leads on accomplishments (9 points) and age (21 points), with voters perceiving him as more physically and mentally fit than Biden. Biden's age and perceived memory lapses have contributed to this significant gap.
Biden faces an uphill battle in swaying voters on the issues. The formidable leads held by Trump in major policy areas, coupled with Biden's narrow margins on his own strengths, create a "bleak issues environment" for Democrats.
With inflation persisting, illegal immigration surging, and foreign conflicts unresolved, Biden must find ways to create movement on the issues to challenge Trump's dominance.
The Fox News Power Rankings Issues Tracker provides insights into the pivotal issues shaping voter decisions in the 2024 presidential race. Trump's significant leads on the economy, border security, foreign policy, and age present a formidable challenge for Biden, who faces an uphill battle in reversing these perceptions before November.
