Former President Donald Trump was granted permission to attend the high school graduation of his youngest son, Barron, on Friday. The decision was made by Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over Trump's criminal trial in Manhattan.

Trump had been pushing for weeks to attend his son's graduation. He had previously floated the possibility of Barron attending his alma mater, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Tiffany Trump also graduated.

Merchan ultimately granted Trump's request to attend Barron's graduation, but he denied Trump's request to attend arguments at the Supreme Court on April 25 regarding the matter of presidential immunity.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. He maintains his innocence.

The trial is expected to resume on Monday with continued cross-examination of the prosecution's star witness, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

Trump's attendance at his son's graduation comes as he faces a number of legal challenges. In addition to the criminal trial in Manhattan, Trump is also facing a civil lawsuit from the New York Attorney General's office alleging that he defrauded donors to his charitable foundation.

"He's a great young man," she said. "He's very smart and he's very compassionate. He's also very independent, which is something that I'm very proud of."

Barron Trump is the youngest of Trump's five children. He was born in 2006 and is the only child of Trump and his current wife, Melania.
